Description:

The name hematite comes from a Greek word meaning 'blood' which is derived from the fact that, when cut, the saw coolant becomes colored red. Hematite is one of the most common minerals. The color of most red and brown rocks, such as sandstone, is caused by small amounts of Hematite.

It is also responsible for the red color of many minerals. Hematite can be in reddish-brown, dark silvery-grey scaled masses, ocherous masses, silvery-grey crystals, and dark-grey masses. Formerly used as mourning jewelry, but today mainly for rings and necklaces. It takes a very high polish.
