Afghanite is a rare coveted mineral with a striking blue color, first identified in 1968. With a very close resemblance to Lazurite, and occurring together in the same deposits, Afghanite is distinguished by its unique crystal habit. It is named after its most significant locality in northern Afghanistan. This particular specimen features a couple of very well-composed crystals perched on a marble matrix. The crystals are nicely attached, showing sapphire blue color with a pointed elongated form. It has very good translucency, vitreous luster, and indeed an aesthetic example for the species on the matrix. No repair, no stabilization!
