Peridot sometimes referred to as 'chrysolite', is a gem variety of Olivine. It's a silicate mineral and chemically composed of iron and magnesium. The iron content is responsible for it's beautiful yellowish-green color. It's a national gem of Egypt, where it has been mined as far as 1500 BC. The ancient Egyptians knew it as the 'gem of the Sun.' Peridot is just one of the two gemstones that doesn't form in the earth's crust, but rather in the molten rock of the upper mantle, known as basalt. Gem-quality peridot is quite rare as due to its long journey from the deep within the mantle to the earth's surface. This specimen features a gemmy peridot crystal with nice form and a prominent steeped termination. Its an impressive size for the species where we didn't saw much in size and gem-quality. It has apple green coloration, very well crystalized all around with zero damage. It has a good translucency, multi faced terminations, waxy luster and has self standing nice display position.

Description:

Peridot is an ancient, widely known gemstone with jewelry pieces dating back to the Pharaohs in Egypt. Peridot is a semi-precious gemstone of the olivine mineral family. The name “Peridot” originated from the Arabic word faridat, meaning “gem,” or “pæderot” in Latin, expecting “a kind of opal.” Depending on the quantity of iron, the peridot color varies from yellow to olive- to brownish-green. It is the traditional birthstone for August-born. Peridot is also called “Evening Emerald” because of its shimmering color even under artificial lighting; It is both a day stone and a night stone. Well-known deposits of Peridot are located in China, Egypt, Myanmar, Norway, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the USA.
